THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

India’s batters got on top of the run-rate early on and didn’t let things slip from then across their successful run chase of 209 against Australia in the opening T20i. Captain Suryakumar Yadav laid down most of the chase’s foundations with a thumping 80 from 42 balls, although the support of Ishan Kishan was crucial, he added a half-century. A late cameo from Rinku Singh then saw India home with a ball to spare, Rinku showing why he has made headlines across the world of cricket for his finishing exploits with Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2023 IPL.

AUSTRALIA

Australia deserves huge credit for their level of performance in this first match despite only having celebrating winning the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup last Sunday. Both Steve Smith and Josh Inglis started in the final and it was those two who stood out the most, Smith scoring 52 and Inglis smashing a brilliant 110 from just 50 balls to help propel Australia to 208/3 batting first. Unfortunately though, this didn’t prove enough on an excellent batting surface in Visakhapatnam.

THE PREDICTION

These two teams are clearly well-matched as proven in the first T20i on Thursday and another close encounter is expected this time around. Perhaps the biggest difference is that those Australian players drafted in specifically for this series have now acclimatised to conditions that you would expect in India, particularly the bowlers, which should lead to an improved showing from them especially. That could well have a huge impact and makes backing Australia to level the series well worth considering.

BETTING TIP: AUSTRALIA TO WIN
