ENGLAND WOMEN
- England Women suffered defeat in their opening match of the Women’s T20 World Cup as they were on the end of a narrow loss to South Africa but this game against Thailand Women presents them with a great chance to earn a first victory.
- England struggled after they were put in to bat first by South Africa and only Nat Sciver made any real inroads into the Proteas’ bowling attack as she notched a half-century to help her side to 123/8.
- Despite keeping the run-rate in check, England failed to make decisive breakthroughs and South Africa did just enough to seal the win in the final over to leave England with some decisions to make regarding the make-up of their side but they are not expected to panic just yet.
THAILAND WOMEN
- Thailand Women put in a spirited performance in their first ever Women’s T20 World Cup clash with West Indies Women but their poor effort with the bat ultimately cost them and that is an area they will need to be better.
- The Thais were only able to make 78/9 from their 20 overs as runs proved difficult to come by with just two of their players reaching double-figures although 19-year-old Nannapat Koncharoenkai impressed with her knock of 33.
- Reducing the Windies to 27/3, Thailand made a great start with the ball and will have given their opponents a big scare but they failed to make any further inroads and the West Indies were able to work their way to victory.
THE PREDICTION
England Women will be eager to bounce back from their loss to South Africa Women as their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign suffered a poor start. England had been expected to win that contest but fell short and it was another worrying result after some below-par efforts in the build-up to the tournament. They now come up against Thailand Women who showed some good signs on their maiden appearance in the competition but they will face a very focused England outfit in this contest and are likely to suffer a big defeat.
