THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

  • India finished the first ODI well, despite narrowly losing and carried that momentum into this second match, comfortably beating South Africa by seven wickets after chasing down 279 to win.
  • Shreyas Iyer backed up his half-century in the first game with a magnificent 113 not out and it was fitting that he was alongside Sanju Samson when the winning runs were scored after the two took India so close to victory last Thursday.

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa’s bowlers had no answer to the India batting last time out and must significantly improve their potency if they are to bounce back and take the series after taking just three wickets.
  • Temba Bavuma did not play in the second ODI and after Reeza Hendricks struck 74 batting at number three, the temptation for South Africa will be to keep the same batting order, although bowlers Tabraiz Lungi Ngidi are each pushing for recalls.

THE PREDICTION

When taking into account the form of India’s batters, particularly those within the spine of their order such as Iyer and Samson, they have every right to come into this final ODI confident of success. South Africa’s bowlers were worryingly ineffective from their perspective on Sunday, whilst the home team contained players who knew how best to utilise the conditions to their advantage. It would be no surprise if a similar story was to occur here, so consider backing India to carry their momentum garnered from the weekend into this final ODI and eventually triumphing in Delhi.
