PUNJAB KINGS
- Punjab Kings are now out of contention for the play-offs after being beaten somewhat surprisingly by Delhi Capitals, this despite the best efforts of Liam Livingstone to complete what would have been one of the most remarkable run chases.
- With 79 runs needed to win off the final four overs and then 33 from the final over, Livingstone’s power hitting took Punjab close, but ultimately 15 runs short as the England all-rounder fell for 94 from just 48 balls, in a knock which included nine sixes.
RAJASTHAN ROYALS
- Although Rajasthan Royals have lost four of their last five fixtures in the 2023 IPL, they remain in with a chance of reaching the top four, provided they win this, their final group match.
- It’ll need to be some turnaround though for Rajasthan following a humiliating 112-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore, which saw them dismissed for 59 chasing 172, a huge blow to their net-run-rate.
THE PREDICTION
Although Punjab Kings’ tournament hopes are over, don’t expect them to lie down here with the desire to finish the season strongly no doubt important to them. They left themselves with too much to do against Delhi, but can take positives from the game into this one. Rajasthan Royals though, appear to have lost all their momentum and it’s hard to see them bouncing back following such a huge loss last time out. They’ve got the players to bounce back strongly but when considering their current form, backing Punjab Kings to win in Dharamsala has to be favoured here.
