THE LOWDOWN

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

  • Chennai Super Kings were victorious the last time these two great rivals faced off at the Wankhede Stadium, although they don’t come into this reverse fixture in the best of form.
  • Each of their last two completed 2023 IPL matches have ended in defeat, most recently against Punjab Kings in a nail-biter which saw their score of 200/4 bettered following the last ball of the game.

MUMBAI INDIANS

  • Back-to-back wins have parachuted Mumbai Indians to ten points with net-run-rate all that is currently preventing them from breaking into the top four as it stands.
  • The Mumbai batters have laid the foundation for those victories, chasing down huge scores of 213 and 215 respectively under pressure, defying their fairly youthful status.

THE PREDICTION

Chennai Super Kings’ previously formidable home record has taken a bit of a hit in this year’s IPL, having lost in Chepauk to both Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. Worringly for them, Mumbai Indians have a history of winning on this ground and have really hit their stride recently, particularly from a batting perspective. CSK’s last completed game saw them fail to defend a 200 score and when taking into account that Mumbai Indians successfully chased down higher totals in each of their last two matches, this may not bode well for the hosts here. Back the in-form visitors to get the better of Chennai Super Kings in what should be another classic between these two franchises.
