Zizou Bergs is coming into this on the back of a breakthrough tournament as he made the quarter-finals of a Masters tournament for the first time in Shanghai. He defeated Casper Ruud early on and exacted revenge on Gabriel Diallo for his Libema Open final loss earlier in the year as he beat the Canadian in the round-of-16. His run would end at the hands of 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, but Bergs has momentum on his side as he seeks to end the season strongly.
He faces compatriot Raphael Collignon, who is also in fine form after performing well on the Challenger Tour in recent weeks. He lost in the final of an event in Orleans and then got through to the last four of a tournament in Mouilleron-le-Captif. These were both indoor tournaments, so Collignon will be more than ready for the conditions in Brussels.
This is a tough match for Bergs to begin his campaign but he must be seen as the favourite to advance.
