Zizou Bergs set up a meeting with world number two Jannik Sinner after getting past Alex Michelsen in the first-round. Bergs had lost in round one of the European Open in his previous event but managed to raise his game in the deciding set here to win 6-3 2-6 6-2. At the start of this month, the Belgian had reached the quarter-finals of a Masters tournament for the first time in his career in Shanghai.
He now faces Sinner. The Italian comes into this on the back of his fourth title of the year after winning the Vienna Open for the second time in his career. He did not have things all his own way in the final against rival Alexander Zverev, but he came from a set down and broke late on to win. Sinner could return to the top of the world rankings if he wins this event in Paris and world number one Carlos Alcaraz fails to get through to the semi-finals.
Sinner will be motivated, having not won this tournament before or a Masters 1000 this season. He’s in awesome form and this is very likely to be a dominant win.
