Zizou Bergs advanced into round two of the US Open after getting past Chun-Hsin Tseng in three sets. The Belgian reeled off four straight games from 4-2 down in the second as he won 6-3 6-4 6-3. This will have been a real confidence boost for Bergs after eight losses from his previous nine matches, and he now faces Great Britain’s Jack Draper for a place in round three.
Draper wasn’t at his best but got through his first match in over a month against Federico Agustin Gomez in the first-round. The Argentine proved to be stern opposition, breaking Draper as he served for the set in the second, while also saving a match point in the third set tiebreak to force a fourth. The world number five regrouped well to win 6-4 7-5 6-7 6-2.
Draper leads the ATP Tour head-to-head 1-0, beating Bergs as a 20-year-old at Wimbledon in the first-round. The British number one is still getting up to speed after time away due to injury, but his aggressive game should still be enough to defeat Bergs relatively comfortably.
