Zeynep Sonmez began the season strongly as she reached the third-round of a major for just the second time at the Australian Open, despite only entering the main draw as a qualifier. She goes up against Sara Bejlek. The 20-year-old is competing in her first event since her stunning triumph at the Abu Dhabi Open. The young Czech had to qualify for the tournament but dropped just one set from her seven matches as she stormed her way to the title. She defeated second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the final. Bejlek moved into the top 40 of the world rankings for the first time, following the first tour-level title win of her career.
Bejlek is a rising talent on the tour and will be the clear favourite to defeat Sonmez and continue her winning run.
