Zeynep Sonmez picked up one of her best wins in quite some time as she dumped world number 12 Clara Tauson out of the China Open in the second-round with a three set victory. Both players dominated their respective sets, leading to a decider which was impressively won by the Turk, who raced into a 5-1 lead and got the job done after exactly two hours. Sonmez won 6-4 2-6 6-3.
Anastasia Potapova will be her next opponent. She squeezed past Canadian Open champion Victoria Mboko to advance. Potapova crucially broke the Mboko serve when the 19-year-old was serving for the first set at 6-5 up, taking it on a tiebreak. The second set mirrored the first as Mboko built a 5-3 lead. Yet again however, Potapova broke and found her form during the end of the set to win 7-6 7-5.
We edge towards the higher ranked Potapova getting the job done in this one.
