Yusuke Watanuki vs Daniel Altmaier prediction
Yusuke Watanuki qualified for the Canadian Open after beating Dalibor Srvcina in three sets. He is currently ranked 158 in the world and mostly competes on the Challenger Tour. His best result of the season saw him make the semi-final in Gwangju. However, his most impressive achievement was getting through to the fourth-round of Indian Wells, winning five matches in total including qualifying.
Daniel Altmaier will be his opponent in round one. Altmaier has not been performing strongly since his run to the fourth-round of Roland Garros in early June, picking up just two victories since then. In terms of his recent matches on hard court, he lost to Tristan Schoolkate in the second-round of Los Cabos and then fell to a close defeat to Matteo Arnaldi in round one of the Washington Open.
This will be their first tour-level match against each other, but they did compete in a Challenger match in Champaign four years ago. Watanuki easily won 6-1 6-2. The German’s form is shaky at best right now and we predict an upset which sees Wataknuki come out on top.
