Yuliia Starodubtseva vs Ella Seidel prediction

Yulia Starodubtseva was able to pick up a couple of wins in her last event before the US Open. The Ukrainian competed in Monterrey, and defeated Lilli Tagger and Janice Tjen to progress to the last eight of the tournament. She would then lose to second seed Elise Mertens. This was a timely return to form for Starodubtseva as she suffered first-round defeats in Toronto and Cincinnati earlier this month. She did reach her first WTA final in Charleston back in the spring.

Her first-round opponent is Ella Seidel. The German has struggled in terms of results for much of this season. She beat Dalma Galfi in Warsaw, before losing to Gabriela Knutson, while her Cincinnati qualifying campaign ended with a straight sets loss to Nadia Podoroska. At her most recent tournament, she lost in the first-round to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in Philadelphia.

Starodubtseva looks the more reliable option, and her aggressive baseline game should allow her to dictate against Seidel.
