Yulia Putintseva vs Diana Shnaider prediction

Yulia Putintseva overcame Diana Shnaider in three sets to advance to the second-round of the Wuhan Open. The Kazakh was 4-2 down in the final set but fought back to win 6-7 (1) 6-3 7-5 after two hours and 51 minutes. The 31-year-old qualified for the main draw after a win over Ashlyn Krueger. 

She faces Diana Shnaider next. Shanider easily got past Katie Boulter in her opening match, with the Russian conceding just four games on her way to winning 6-3 6-1. Shnaider’s best result of the season was her first Grand Slam semi-final at Roland Garros, which included a surprise comeback win over Aryna Sabalenka. Despite more consistent results in 2026, Shnaider is yet to win a title or progress to a final.

She trails Putintseva 0-2 in the head-to-head. Nevertheless, she has developed as a player since their last meeting in early 2025, and will be the commanding favourite to notch up a first ever win against her upcoming opponent.
