Yuan Yuan overcame a dip in the second set to beat Antonia Ruzic and book her place into the round-of-16 at the Transylvania Open. She was 4-1 down in the first but reeled off eight games in a row to go a set and a double break up. However, Ruzic fought back with five successive games of her own and went on to take the second set. Yuan controlled the decider to win 6-4 5-7 6-2. She now has six wins from her eight matches this season, including qualifiers.
She faces Sara Sorribes next. The Spaniard got past Vikoriya Tomova in straight sets in her first-round match. A strange second set saw nine breaks of serve overall, with Sorribes initially failing to serve out the match. She broke in the 12th game to seal a 6-2 7-5 win.
Yuan has managed to pick up victories at the start of this season, and her all-court game should give her the edge against Sorribes, who was struggling on serve in her previous match.
