Yue Yuan vs Elise Mertens prediction
Yue Yuan only qualified for this event as a lucky loser but is now into the quarter-finals after her second successive straight sets win at the Libema Open. The Chinese player did go a break down on two occasions in the first set but rallied back and eventually defeated Kimberly Birrell 6-4 6-3.
She now takes on Elise Mertens for a place in the last four. The Belgian ended a three-match losing streak to Maria Sakkari as she easily won 6-3 6-0. She is now into her first quarter-final on grass since the Mallorca Open in 2019.
Yuan actually leads the head-to-head 1-0, beating Mertens as a qualifier in her home event two years ago. She came from a set down to win but this will be their first encounter on a grass court. Yuan has done well to make it this far, but we expect the third seed, who has looked untroubled so far, to advance comfortably.
