Yue Yuan advanced to the next round of the ATX Open after she staged a magnificent recovery to beat Rebecca Sramkova. The 2024 champion only entered the main draw as a lucky loser following Jessica Pegula’s withdrawal, and she looked set for an early exit after losing the first set and going a break down to her opponent. Sramkova served for the match and was 40-0 up, but remarkably Yuan saved all three match points, broke back, and won nine of the next 10 games to seal a 4-6 7-5 6-1 win.
She now plays Dalma Galfi for a place in the last eight. Galfi beat 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in her first-round match. She won the first set and looked on course for victory at 4-2 up in the second. However, Andreescu broke back and forced a deciding set. Galfi stormed ahead in the third to go 4-0 up, and despite some wobbles, served it out to win 6-3 5-7 6-4.
There is no clear favourite between the two players for this match, and this could run into a third set.
