Yue Yuan made it through to the quarter-finals of the ATX Open after beating Dalma Galfi. The 2024 champion had to save three match points in her first-round match, but this was a far more comfortable encounter for Yuan, as she did not even face a break point on her way to winning 6-3 6-2 after just one hour and 23 minutes. She only entered the tournament as a lucky loser, but is now just a win away from the last four.
She faces Ashlyn Krueger next. The American dug deep to beat Anastasia Zakharova in straight sets. Krueger went a break down early on in the match but recovered with two breaks towards the end of the first set to pull ahead. Both players exchanged breaks in the second set, but Kreuger continued to create opportunities and eventually sealed a 7-5 6-3 win.
Both players were not in great form before this week, but they have found consistency and this looks like a finely balanced matchup with neither player expected to run away with it.
