This will be a third meeting with honours even at a win apiece. Both players ended losing runs to put together some form here in Shanghai and have each posted eyebrow-raising results. 

Munar has the edge with ranking and won their most recent meeting on the clay of Barcelona last year. 

It feels like the first set will be key given both previous encounters were won in straight sets, but we have a feeling Nishioka will have the greater desire to impress in this part of the world and is finally playing the tennis he is capable of. The Japanese also favours hardcourts which is certainly not the case for the Spanish world number 41.
