One of three new entries to Super League this season, York Knights open the campaign at home to reigning champions Hull KR, who dominated domestically in 2025.

Start date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Sky Sports & BBC / USA – Fox Sports

How to watch online: UK – Sky Go & BBC platforms & Super League+ / USA – Fox Sports platforms & Super League+

York Knights team news: Running it back

The hosts are expected to field the same team that won in last weekend’s Challenge Cup match against Barrow, with no injuries suffered during that contest, meaning Mark Applegarth was able to name the same squad.

Squad: Toa Mata’afa, Ben Jones-Bishop, Sam Wood, Scott Galeano, Ata Hingano, Liam Harris, Jack Martin, Paul McShane, Paul Vaughan, Josh Griffin, Jesse Dee, Jordan Thompson, Denive Balmforth, Xavier Va’a, Justin Sangaré, Danny Richardson, Oli Field, Kieran Buchanan, Jack Smith, Nikau Williams, King Vuniyayawa

Hull KR team news: New signings to wait

Both Tom Amone and Jordan Dezaria will have to wait another week at least to make their Super League debuts with the two new signings missing out here due to hand and hamstring injuries respectively.

Squad: Arthur Mourgue, Tom Davies, Peta Hiku, Oliver Gildart, Joe Burgess, Mikey Lewis, Tyrone May, Sauaso Sue, Jez Litten, Dean Hadley, James Batchelor, Elliot Minchella, Jack Broadbent, Sam Luckley, Jai Whitbread, Rhyse Martin, Jack Brown, Karl Lawton, Noah Booth, Bill Leyland, Tom Whitehead

York Knights vs Hull KR prediction

History does not look kindly upon this fixture from the hosts’ perspective, with Hull KR having beaten York in each of their last 14 encounters. It would be a shock if that were to change here, despite the expected raucous atmosphere from the home crowd who have waited so long to cheer on a Super League side. Hull KR supporters will never forget the achievements of Willie Peters’ side last season, as they not only won the Grand Final but also secured the League Leaders Shield and the Challenge Cup.

The big question mark for Hull KR is how they will cope with the loss of players such as the experienced Michael McIlorum and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves. You’d expect them to be fine, the core remains as does the head coach and the attacking firepower of this Hull KR side is mouth-watering. The York Knights backline face a long evening ahead when considering the multitude of ways their opponents can hurt them.

It's a huge test for York and they’ll need new signings Paul Vaughan, Josh Griffin, Justin Sangare and Xavier Va’a to settle in immediately and make an impact. But this juggernaut that Willie Peters has created should wind up far too strong for them and triumph by a sizable margin.
