Yibing Wu vs Sho Shimabukuro prediction
Yibing Wu pulled off an upset in the first-round of the Mexican Open as he beat three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud in straight sets. Wu took the first set on a tiebreak and broke back immediately when Ruud edged clear in the second. He saved six out of seven break point opportunities overall.
He goes up against Sho Shimabukuro for a place in the quarter-finals. Shimabukuro defeated Adrian Mannarino in his first-round match. He went an early break down but recovered magnificently to go in front. Shimabukuro largely controlled the second set to win 6-3 6-4 and register his first tour-level win of the season. His best result of the campaign so far was on the Challenger Tour, as he reached the semi-finals in San Diego.
Wu has greater pedigree and will be expected to win after such an impressive match against Ruud, but Shimabukuro could test him at times.
