Yibing Wu had a promising first half of 2026, advancing past the first round in each of the two Slam events which he participated in (Australian Open and French Open). However, he failed to make it through the qualifiers in Cincinnati and was a first-round exit at the Winston-Salem Open. Adam Walton meanwhile, reached the third round in Cincinnati, beating both Nicolas Mejia and Ignacio Buse in straight sets before losing a close three-set encounter to Jaime Faria.

Walton only won one match at Winston Salem but has been competing in higher-level competition recently compared to his opponent and this represents a big chance for the Australian to progress. Wu appears to have lost some form at a bad time and backing Walton to advance has to be favoured.
