Yi Zhou was handed a wildcard for the Shanghai Masters. The 20-year-old, who is ranked 305 in the world, won on the ATP Tour for the first time this season in Chengdu as he came from a set down to beat Cameron Norrie in the first-round. He also advanced from the first-round of Shanghai last year. He attempted to qualify for the China Open most recently but lost to David Goffin in the first stage.
Jesper de Jong also failed to qualify for the same event after a loss in the second stage to Adrian Mannarino. His best result on a hard court this season was a semi-final appearance in Marseille during February. The Dutchman is currently at his highest ranking of 79 in the world.
De Jong has far greater pedigree and experience on the tour and will be seen as the favourite to wrap this one up against Zhou in straight sets.
