Caty McNally dug deep to edge into the round of 16 in Memphis.

The American came up clutch in the final-set tie-break to see off Xiyu Wang 4-6 6-3 7-6.

The sixth seed will now meet another Chinese hopeful in the shape of Ye-Xin Ma, who defeated Kimberly Birrell 7-6 6-4.

This will be their maiden meeting but McNally has been excellent for much of this season and the world number 73 should make her 121-place superiority in the rankings count.
