Xiyu Wang vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto prediction

Xiyu Wang advanced into the round-of-16 in Guangzhou after defeating Francesca Jones. Jones headed into this one on the back of some encouraging form, but Wang edged in front after a tight first set, which saw five breaks of serve overall, and she then broke at the start of the second which proved to be the difference as she won 6-4 6-4.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto is her next opponent. The Italian overcame a stumble in the second set to defeat Diane Parry. Cocciaretto looked set to reach the next round comfortably as she took the first set and raced into a 4-0 lead in the second. Parry fought back and broke twice to draw level in the set. Nevertheless, it looked all but over as Cocciaretto had three match points in the tiebreak, but she was unable to convert any of them, with Parry winning the last three points to dramatically win the set. The world number 95 wrestled back control and won the last four service games in the decider to win 6-4 6-7 6-2.

Cocciaretto will need to be more ruthless if she is to get past Wang in the next round.
