Xinyu Wang cruised past Kaitlin Quevedo in the first-round of the Transylvania Open. The Chinese player broke twice in the first set to take the lead. She completed dominated the second to win 6-3 6-0 after just an hour and two minutes. She defeated Linda Noskova at the Australian Open on her way to the fourth-round, her best ever result in Melbourne.
She now faces Rebeka Masarova in the next round. The Swiss put an end to home favourite Elena-Gabriela Ruse’s campaign, winning in three sets. Masarova dominated the first set, but her serve was broken for the first time as she attempted to stay in the second. Despite that setback, she completely controlled the decider to win 6-2 4-6 6-1.
Masarova does lead the head-to-head after a three set win at the Thailand Open two years ago. Nevertheless, Wang is performing well at the moment and starts as the clear favourite.
