Xinyu Wang vs Maria Sakkari prediction
Xinyu Wang’s best tournament of the year so far has been a semi-final appearance at the Singapore Open. She won three matches as the fourth seed before falling to a straight sets defeat to Elise Mertens. Apart from that, her form has been largely poor so far this season.
Maria Sakkari has struggled this year and is sliding down the rankings, with the Greek now placed 82nd in the world. She has not made it past the second-round of an event since late January and needs a boost of confidence with a deep run at one of the upcoming clay court tournaments.
She fell to a disappointing defeat to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first-round of the Open de Rouen last time out. She does lead the head-to-head with Wang, winning their only encounter in Beijing in October 2023.
Sakkari has already played two clay court tournaments just recently, which differs to Wang who is making her bow on the surface this week. Despite her poor form, we think this is the perfect opportunity for Sakkari to get back on track and return to winning ways.
