The Chinese player defeated Anhelina Kalinina and former major champion Jelena Ostapenko, before pulling off an upset as she beat Linda Noskova. She put up a strong fight against Amanda Anisimova but lost in two close sets.
She faces Kaitlin Quevedo. The teenager has shown some form at the start of this year, as she qualified for the Auckland International and reached the second-round. Quevedo lost in the first stage of Australian Open qualifying but bounced back with two wins here to enter the main draw.
Wang has won eight of her 11 matches in 2026 and will be viewed as one of the favourites for the title in Cluj-Napoca. Quevedo is a talent, but she is likely to be no match for the Chinese player in the first-round.
