Xinyu Wang vs Coco Gauff prediction

Coco Gauff reached the round-of-16 in Montreal before a surprising straight sets defeat to 18-year-old Victoria Mboko. This was an improvement from her early exits in Berlin and Wimbledon but Gauff still hasn’t really got things going since clinching her second Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in June. Her serve is not firing at the moment, with 43 double faults committed in total last week. She received a bye in the first-round and begins her campaign in Cincinnati against Xinyu Wang.

The Chinese player made it through to round two after beating Emiliana Arango in straight sets. A topsy turvy first set saw four breaks of serve, with Wang dominating the tiebreak to take the lead. She went an early break down in the second but recovered well to win 7-6 6-3. 

The head-to-head is locked at 1-1 but this will be their first match on hard court. Gauff won their first encounter three years ago, but Wang caused an upset as a qualifier just six weeks ago as she defeated the American 6-3 6-3 in the second-round of the German Open on her way to the final.

This is a tricky encounter for Gauff who is clearly not at the top of her game right now. Nevertheless, she should still prevail against the world number 37.
