Whitney Osuigwe qualified for the tournament after wins over Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Cristina Bucsa. She did the same last week in Montreal last week but lost in the first-round to Hailey Baptiste in straight sets. Her form over the last two months has been all over the place, as she has made two finals, including a stunning triumph at Queen’s, but also lost in the first-round of over five events.
Osuigwe leads the head-to-head 1-0 on the WTA Tour. She defeated Maria 6-3 6-3 in the first-round of the Dow Tennis Classic last November indoors. The German is struggling in terms of form, and we can envision an upset here in the first-round.
