Warrington Wolves vs Wakefield Trinity prediction

You have to go all the way back to 1955 for Warrington Wolves’ last championship and 1968 for Wakefield Trinity, both of which took place long before the Super League era began in 1996. One of these two clubs will break their duck this weekend after both made it to the final on the back of thrilling semi-final victories.

Warrington Wolves came into an injury-depleted Leeds Rhinos’ house and took care of business with a gritty, battling performance that saw their defence come to the fore, winning 12-14 to make it nine wins in their last ten games. However, the Wire’s only loss came at the hands of the opponent they’ll be facing at Old Trafford.

Wakefield Trinity put in what many would’ve seen as the perfect showing away to Wigan Warriors, where they were understandably huge underdogs pre-game. They went to the home of a side unbeaten since the Challenge Cup final and absolutely dominated, coming out on top 6-33. The big question though, is whether they can replicate such an incredible showing in the final.

The worry from a Wakefield perspective is them having peaked at the Brick Community Stadium. Sam Burgess’ Warrington have been an absolute wagon and could potentially even go up a further gear. They’ve also benefitted from an extra day of rest. It will be a fascinating final, the first ever not to feature at least one of Wigan, St. Helens or Leeds Rhinos. In the end though, back Warrington Wolves to narrowly overcome Wakefield.
