Wakana Sonobe vs Sofia Kenin prediction
Wakana Sonobe defeated fellow teenage wildcard Nikola Bartunkova to record her second-tour level victory and make it through to the round-of-16 at the Pan Pacific Open. Sonobe, who won the Australian Open junior title, was 4-2 down in the first set but then reeled off seven straight games in a row as she won 6-4 6-3.
She goes up against 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in the next round. Kenin enjoyed a dominant win in round one as she beat home favourite Moyuka Uchijima in straight sets. The American was not broken on serve as she wrapped up a 6-1 6-3 win after just an hour and 10 minutes.
It’s been a difficult season for Kenin, and she has failed to achieve back-to-back wins at a tournament since Roland Garros all the way back in May. She is up against such an inexperienced opponent in Sonobe and this is a wonderful opportunity for her to reach a first quarter-final in over six months.
Wakana Sonobe vs Sofia Kenin tip: Sofia Kenin to win 2-0
