Vit Kopriva began 2026 by competing in Canberra on the Challenger Tour. He won his first two matches but then lost in the last eight against Alexander Blockx. He then attempted to qualify for the Auckland Open. He beat former Grand Slam semi-finalist Pablo Carreno Busta in the first stage, before going on to lose to Hugo Gaston in straight sets. This will be his second main draw appearance at the Australian Open.
He takes on Jan-Lennard Struff. The German struggled for long periods of 2025, though he did make it all the way to the round-of-16 at the US Open as a qualifier. He began the season with two qualifying wins at the Hong Kong Open before a defeat in the first-round to Botic van de Zandschulp. His record at the Australian Open isn’t great, with just two wins from his 11 appearances at the slam.
Struff has more firepower to his game, which will suit the court conditions in Melbourne, and defeated Kopriva two months ago at an indoor Challenger event in Lyon. The German is the favourite to get through.
