Vit Kopriva picked up his first win of the grass court season as he defeated Damir Dzumhur in the first-round. The Czech saved all four break points on offer and won 86% of his points on first serve as he claimed a 6-3 6-4 win after just an hour and 20 minutes. Kopriva took world number three Alexander Zverev to a deciding set in their first-round match at the Halle Open last week.
He will now face Ignacio Buse. The Peruvian defeated former world number three and 2022 champion Stefanos Tsitsipas to advance. The opening set was decided by a tiebreak, which Buse won to take the lead. He then broke at the start of the second and opened up a 3-0 lead, holding serve from that point to seal a 7-6 (4) 6-3 victory.
Kopriva’s consistency should ensure a competitive match, but Buse is growing in confidence on the grass and will want to generate further momentum.
