Viktorija Golubic was emphatic in her somewhat surprising defeat of world number 59 Panna Udvardy, hammering the Hungarian in just 14 games in the first round, 6-0, 6-2. Golubic has been in good form this month before running into Barbora Krejcikova in the WTA Paris Challenger event and Mirra Andreeva at the Italian Open in Rome.
Alycia Parks has endured a mixed clay season thus far, having made it through qualification at the Madrid Open but then failed to do so in Rome. She then suffered second round defeats at WTA 250K in Parma and then in Morocco. Parks impressively defeated Leylah Fernandez in the first round in straight sets the other day.
Viktorija Golubic would have expected to stand a real chance here and she still does but Parks’ impressive display would suggest it could be one for the long haul in the second round here.
