Victoria Mboko vs Madison Keys prediction

Madison Keys kicked off her title defence with a dominant victory that leaves rising star Tereza Valentova well aware that there’s still work to be done to reach the highest level of the sport.

The second seed raced clear in the second set to post a 6-4 6-1 success over the Czech teenager.

Keys will now take on eighth seed Victoria Mboko after the Canadian outlasted Anna Kalinskaya 8-6 in a final set-set breaker to triumph 6-2 3-6 7-6.

Once again, on paper, this could be a potential banana skin for Maddy with the 19-year-old Mboko very much tipped for the very top; a fact underlined by her WTA 1000 title in Canada back in the summer. 

Mboko could do what we tipped Valentova to do and produce the upset, but Keys was clean and consistent in that opener, despite dealing with the spotlight and plenty of pressure.

It may be a tougher challenge but if the reigning Australian Open champion is hitting that sort of level, she’ll be tough to stop here.
