Victoria Mboko vs Elena Rybakina prediction
Victoria Mboko’s magical run in Montreal continued as she backed up an outstanding win over first seed Coco Gauff, the biggest of her young career so far with a quarter-final triumph against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. For the 18-year-old to win both of those matches in straight sets, giving up no more than four games per set is a testament as to how well she’s been playing and the wave of momentum that the Canadian is currently riding.
Elena Rybakina progressed through to the semi-finals with the benefit of not having to exert too much energy when taking into account the fitness struggles of opponent Marta Kostyuk. Rybakina took the first set 6-1 before Kostyuk retired injured when trailing 2-1 in the second set. The ninth seed will therefore come into this semi-final encounter fresh, but perhaps lacking intensity due to the nature of her quarter-final victory.
These two players clashed last month in Washington with Rybakina winning in two sets. But Mboko has already proven that she is a fast learner from previous match-ups, having beaten Gauff in her second contest of the year against the American. Another big factor that wasn’t the case in Washington is the crowd, who will be behind Mboko every step of the way.
When factoring in the tennis that Mboko is currently playing, the home crowd effect and the clutch nature of those points that she’s winning off serve, this feels like destiny for the teenager, so consider backing her to pull off another upset.
