Just days after producing a remarkable series of performances to win the Canadian Open, 18-year-old starlet Victoria Mboko returns to action to compete in the Cincinnati Open.
The Canadian prodigy was outstanding all week in not only playing good tennis but showing great character against the likes of Elena Rybakina in the semis and Naomi Osaka in the final to come back from a set down to win those matches and ultimately the tournament.
Mboko has firmly established herself as one of the hottest young talents on the WTA Tour and now she faces the real test in seeing if she can keep this form going after the emotional high of winning her first major tournament.
The Canadian has been handed a tough tie in her opening match as she comes up against the fierce Diana Shnaider in the second round in Cincinnati.
This may be a good time to face the 21-year-old Russian who has not been in great form of late and only won one of her last five matches.
That said, she will likely have extra motivation to cause what would now be considered an upset, and we fear that Mboko will have quite the comedown after her heroics in Montreal and the quick turnaround.
