Veronika Kudermetova advanced to her first semi-final of the season after thrashing Varvara Gracheva in straight sets. Kudermetova broke the Gracheva serve in the very first game of the match to signal her intentions and never looked back, wrapping up a 6-1 6-2 win after just an hour and four minutes. She did not face a break point and has dropped just one set in her five matches so far in the tournament.
She will face Jasmine Paolini in the semi-finals as the Italian came from a set down to defeat 2023 champion Coco Gauff. A topsy-turvy match saw 14 breaks of serve overall, with Paolini benefiting from an error-strewn display by Gauff, who committed 16 double faults and 62 unforced errors. Nevertheless, the Italian showed great fighting spirit to win 2-6 6-4 6-3 and secure a third straight win of the year against the two-time Grand Slam champion.
Kudermetova leads the head-to-head 2-0 on the WTA Tour, though their last match was in 2021. Paolini will be the favourite for this one and should be able to grind out yet another victory.
