Veronika Erjavec last competed on the ITF circuit in Jinan, losing in the second-round. She has won two titles on that tour this season and is currently ranked 105 in the world. She has only competed in one WTA event during this campaign and failed to pick up a victory in Iasi after losing in round one.

She faces Tatjana Maria in the first-round of the Guangzhou Open. However, her outing in Suzhou a week earlier was far more encouraging as she reached the semi-finals.
