Venus Williams vs Magdalena Frech prediction

Venus Williams became the oldest woman to win a singles match on tour since Martina Navratilova after defeating Peyton Stearns in straight sets in the first-round of the Washington Open. Williams had not featured on the tour since March 2024 and was without a win since August 2023, but she overcame Stearns, 22 years her junior, 6-3 6-4. Williams went 3-1 down in the second set and lost her serve on a few occasions but still created 14 break point opportunities on her opponent’s serve.

Magdalena Frech is the fifth seed in Washington. The Pole ended a three match losing streak with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 win over Yulia Starodubtseva in the first-round. Frech has endured a difficult season overall, failing to make it past the third-round of any tournament she’s competed in. A first quarter-final of the year is just one match away if Frech can defeat the 45-year-old.

Williams is already the story of the week after her exploits in the first-round but her tournament should come to an end against the fifth seed, who will be desperate for a strong run here after a poor campaign overall.
