Varvara Gracheva has experienced some mixed results this year but she has so far enjoyed a positive run in Cincinnati, coming through two rounds of qualifying before a pair of deciding-set victories over North American pair Katie Volynets and Sofia Kenin.

The latter win, against the 24th seed, will have given Gracheva plenty of confidence and the manner in which she recovered from a losing a tight opening set on a tie-break was particularly impressive.

Karolina Muchova was given a stern test by Caroline Garcia in the second round but the 11th seed raised her game in the important moments to win both tie-breaks.

The Czech star, currently ranked 14th in the world, has fond memories of this tournament having reached the final in 2023, and she has been a consistent performed on hard courts this year.

Gracheva has performed well to reach this stage but she may find Muchova to be one step too far. Th 11th seed's tesint win against Garcia will have served her well and we’re backing her to progress to the round of 16.
