Varvara Gracheva picked up an excellent win in the round-of-16 of Eastbourne as she defeated eighth seed Rebecca Sramkova 7-5 6-3. She only gave up one break point during the whole match and now has four victories in a row at the tournament, including qualifying.
Barbora Krejcikova was once again involved in a dramatic contest with a British player as she booked her place in the last eight of the event. After saving match points in the first-round against Harriet Dart, Krejcikova did the same against Jodie Burrage to win consecutive matches for the first time this year, having been out for the majority of the season so far with injury. The defending Wimbledon champion was 0-40 down when serving to stay in the match at 5-6 in the third set but came roaring back to win 6-4 4-6 7-6.
Gracheva has enjoyed a thoroughly encouraging week but it’s hard to look beyond Krejcikova, who is beginning to find a way to win after being out for so long.
