Valentin Royer lost in the first-round of a Challenger event in Nottingham to Lloyd Harris but still comfortably made it through his three qualifying rounds to enter the main draw here. He made his Grand Slam debut at the French Open last month and is now at his highest ranking of 112 in the world.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has competed in just one event on grass before the third major of the year gets underway. He edged past Luciano Darderi in three sets the first-round of Halle despite requiring medical attention. The two-time Grand Slam finalist and former world number three was unable to go further however as he was beaten by Alex Michelsen for the third time in a row.
Tsitsipas is suffering from a major drop in form which has seen him fall out of the top 10 of the rankings and beyond. He has never truly made his mark on grass, having never reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, though he should still have enough to defeat the inexperienced Royer here.
