Valentin Royer vs Harry Wendelken prediction
Valentin Royer’s only previous grass court event in the build-up to Wimbledon was at the Mallorca Championships last week, and he lost his opening match to Ethan Quinn in straight sets. His highlight of the season so far was taking a set off 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in their second-round match at Roland Garros, but his overall results have been largely poor, other than a Challenger Tour final in Oeiras. He did make the second-round at Wimbledon last year, losing to Adrian Mannarino.
He faces Harry Wendelken, who received a wildcard. The Brit broke new ground earlier this month as he qualified for Queen’s Club, making his tour-level debut in the straight sets defeat to Botic van de Zandschulp.
Royer enters as the slight favourite based on his higher ranking, but Wendelken should be able to make this a competitive first-round match, especially with home support on his side.
