Valentin Royer vs Denis Shapovalov prediction
Valentin Royer was not broken on serve as he defeated Yunchaokete Bu in straight sets to advance to round two. Bu had reached his second ATP semi-final of the season in Winston-Salem just last week, but he never got going against Royer who dominated most of the match to win. The Frenchman fired 51 winners as he won 6-1 6-4 7-6.
Denis Shapovalov will be his opponent after he beat Marton Fucsovics in round one. The Canadian had won the Los Cabos Open last month but headed into this final major of the year on the back of two early exits at the Masters tournaments. Fucsovics meanwhile had just won the title in Winston-Salem but did show signs that he was running out of steam in set three, with Shapovalov coming through to win 6-4 6-4 6-0.
Though Shapovalov is the favourite, he is an inconsistent player and can be prone to surprise defeats, like his Wimbledon loss to Mariano Navone in the first-round. Number of games is a safer option than leading with the Canadian on this one.
