Ugo Humbert squeezed past top seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a tight semi-final to advance in Adelaide. The Frenchman took the first set but was broken at the end of the second as Davidovich Fokina forced a decider. Both players were resolute on serve and the match had to be decided on a tiebreak, with Humbert winning four of the last five points to get through, winning 6-3 5-7 7-6 (4).

He faces Tomas Machac. The Czech defeated Tommy Paul in the other semi-final.  Paul reeled off five games in a row to take the lead, but Machac produced a controlled performance after that, not dropping serve in the next two sets and going on to win 2-6 6-3 6-3 after one hour and 51 minutes.
