Ugo Humbert defeated Hamad Medjedovic in three sets to book his place in the quarter-finals of Queen’s. The Frenchman needed to save four match points, before levelling the contest in the second set on a tiebreak, with the match then being suspended for bad light. The players returned the next day, with Humbert prevailing in another tiebreak to win 2-6 7-6 (4) 7-6 (5).
He will face Rinky Hijikata next. The Australian advanced to the last eight after a fine win over 2025 finalist Jiri Lehecka. Hijikata, who reached the quarter-finals of the event in 2024, held his nerve towards the end of the match to win 4-6 7-5 7-6 (7) against the world number 12. He was a set and a break down to the Czech, but he can now look forward to his first tour-level quarter-final of the campaign.
Despite being viewed as the underdog, Hijikata will be fresher as this is Humbert’s second outing of the day on court.
