That was a tough draw for the Frenchman, who had arrived in Melbourne in excellent form having made the final in Adelaide a week earlier, where he lost to Tomas Machac. Humbert is a highly skilled player indoors and will be viewed as one of the favourites for the title.
He goes up against Botic van de Zandschulp in Montpellier. The Dutchman produced some encouraging performances at the Australian Open and made it to the third-round. He had a set point against Novak Djokovic in their match, to take the contest into a fourth set, but the 24-time Grand Slam champion would go on to save it and wrap up a win in straights.
Van de Zandschulp can be a threat in these conditions, especially if his serve is firing, but Humbert is the clear favourite to get through to the next round.
