Ugo Humbert ended the grass court season in disappointing fashion, as he lost in the final of the Eastbourne Open to Zizou Bergs despite going a set up. He was then beaten by Bergs in five sets at Wimbledon just two days later in round one. Humbert also advanced to another final earlier this season, losing to Tomas Machac in Adelaide. He is still ranked inside the top 30 of the rankings, but he will hope for a few wins to start his North American hard court swing in the best possible way.
Andres Martin is set to compete in the main draw of an ATP 500 event for the first time after navigating through two rounds of qualifying. The 25-year-old defeated Christopher O’Connell in five sets before also getting past Moez Echargui. Martin will hope to impress in front of a home crowd as he prepares for one of the biggest matches of his career to date.
Humbert’s strong serve should allow him to dominate his service games, and limit Martin’s break point opportunities.
