Tristan Schoolkate vs Matteo Arnaldi prediction

Tristan Schoolkate staged one of the biggest upsets of round one at the Canadian Open as he defeated Joao Fonseca in straight sets. Fonseca is regarded as one of the most talented youngsters on the tour but he was no match for Schoolkate, who served extremely well throughout. He won 89% of his first serve points and did not even give up a break point. He won 7-6 6-4, picking up just his second win at a Masters event and his first ever victory over a top 50 player.

His next opponent will be Matteo Arnaldi. Arnaldi heads into Toronto on the back of a decent showing in Washington, as he recorded two wins before a loss to top seed Taylor Fritz in the round-of-16. His best result of the season was on a hard court, as he reached the semi-finals of the Delray Beach Open in February.

Arnaldi is a better mover on the court than Fonseca and his rally tolerance is higher, which may cause a bit of concern for Schoolkate despite such an outstanding performance in the last round. This may head into a decider but the Italian is clearly improving on this surface and will be the favourite to come out on top.
